The merciless

Hey, everyone 🙂

I wanted to write for this book so badly. Partly because I’m disappointed, partly because it was exactly like I anticipated.

Basically Merciless is the crossover of mean girls and the exorcist, and this review contains spoilers. You’ve been warned.

Brooklyn Stevens sits in a pool of her own blood, tied up and gagged. No one outside of these dank basement walls knows she’s here. No one can hear her scream.

Sofia Flores knows she shouldn’t have gotten involved. When she befriended Riley, Grace, and Alexis on her first day at school, she admired them, with their perfect hair and their good-girl ways. They said they wanted to save Brooklyn. They wanted to help her. Sofia didn’t realize they believed Brooklyn was possessed.

Now, Riley and the girls are performing an exorcism on Brooklyn—but their idea of an exorcism is closer to torture than salvation. All Sofia wants is to get out of this house. But there is no way out. Sofia can’t go against the other girls . . . unless she wants to be next. . . .

In this chilling debut, Danielle Vega delivers blood-curdling suspense and terror on every page. By the shockingly twisted end, readers will be faced with the most haunting question of all: Is there evil in all of us?

So basically this book is about hypocrisy, which is widely condemned by the vast majority of authors. So Sofia discovers, that one of her best friends is tied up in the dark basement, and other besties are going to perform the exorcism, even it means killing Brooklyn. Shortly, we discover that oh not, other besties are also great sinners, and they are miserable hypocrites and even Sofia herself, who’s trying to be so nice girl, is responsible for killing her best friend! The real cliffhanger is, is the Brooklyn really possessed or not? I’m not going to answer this question, you read it if you want to find out.

According to for all the comments I’ve read, this book had to be very scary! I mean people were shocked, and that’s why I was deeply disappointed. Whole exorcism and killing are described precisely. Which doesn’t make book scary, it only makes, a little disturbing to read. I don’t know, who is scared to read the description of the chopped head (That’s for instance). Unlike the summer is ended and we aren’t yet saved, this book doesn’t share similar disturbances. You can’t be terrified of it, just will be meh, and walk away. Sorry Horror authors, but blood and guts, don’t make story scary. It just simply don’t.

So I’m really disappointed, I wanted something really scary, not just gory novel with teenage mean girls.

Please watch the book trailer, it is just awesome.
